Tractor drivers in Ukraine are becoming less and less every year, and this fact provokes a real problem for the domestic agricultural sector. Lilia Grinevich, head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, tried to imagine how to get out of this situation.
According to the minister, one should take into account the problem with the shortage of tractor drivers in the country during the creation of innovative scientific and practical centers for the training of specialists. The Minister is sure that the usual vocational-technical lyceums need to be improved and special workshops with the latest equipment and extra-class teachers should be built on their basis. To attract the attention of young people to the profession of a tractor driver and to prove to applicants the honor and potential of this specialty, the leadership of colleges and lyceums should work closely with employers and listen to world trends in agriculture and technology.

Recall that not so long ago a reform was carried out in Ukraine that affected vocational education. Following this reform, local budgets obligated to finance the needs of vocational schools and technical schools of the Ministry of Education. This innovation did not appeal to many local governments, which emphasized: “We have so little money!” As a result, several regions of the country recognized the system of specialized education as destructive and closed a number of technical schools and specialized lyceums.
