When growing frankincense, you need to properly propagate the culture. This will save the varietal characteristics of the flower and prevent the death of the bush. This article will discuss the main methods of breeding frankincense, as well as the most common mistakes gardeners.
Propaganda
Badanas can breed in many ways. Most gardeners prefer to use the cuttings method. This is due to the fact that it allows you to get seedlings in a short time. If you decide to use the method of dividing the bush, then proceed to the procedure in the fall.
At the same time, you need to start planting seeds. But the cuttings are carried out in the spring. The seed method of breeding frankincense is not as effective as other methods. Germination of planting material does not exceed 60%.
Did you know? In 2007, Siberian Medical University proved that frankincense is a flower, the tincture of which prevents the death and destruction of cell membranes of the liver.
Dividing the bush in the fall
It is better to engage in the division of bushes in the fall, when the plant is at rest. It is necessary to divide into parts an adult, 3-year-old shrub, so that each segment has its own growth point.
Seedlings are planted in open ground at a distance of 40 cm from each other. Planting material needs to be deepened by 5 cm. Landing must be done carefully so as not to damage the rhizome. Leaving consists in watering, top dressing and loosening the soil, as is the case with adult plants.
Cuttings
As cuttings, young rosettes obtained in the spring, which have small leaves and a piece of horizontal rhizome, are used. You need to cut them from healthy and adult shrubs. The procedure is started in the spring so that the plant has time to develop and take root before the onset of winter. Planting cuttings should be immediately in the open ground, as the incense negatively responds to frequent transplants.
Landing technology is as follows:
- Soak the seedlings in the Kornevin solution (40 g per 5 liters of water) to stimulate growth.
- Plant in a hole 7 cm deep. The distance between the bushes should be 50 cm.
- Pour 5 liters of water and mulch the trunk circle.
Caring for cuttings is:
- watering. Irrigate the soil every week;
- top dressing. In the spring, 30 g of potassium nitrate is used, and in the fall, 50 g of superphosphate for each bush;
- weed removal;
- loosening the soil.
Seeds
Sow seeds at the end of November. If you carry out the procedure in the winter, then this will increase the seed germination.
Important! Plants that are obtained by sowing seeds begin to bloom for 3-4 years after planting.
The seed preparation procedure is as follows:
- soak in a solution of "Epina" (30 g per 5 l of water) to stimulate seedlings. They need to withstand 5 days;
- wrap the seed in gauze and put in the refrigerator for 10 days;
- calcine in an open oven for 15 minutes to equalize with ambient temperature.
First, seeds need to be sown in a container that is placed in a well-lit and warm place, or in a greenhouse. Planting material needs to be deepened by 3-4 cm, at a distance of 5 cm from each other. Care consists of daily watering and weed removal.
In the spring, when the first shoots appear, you need to dive seedlings and plant it in open ground. In the first winter, plants are covered with a dense layer of mulch (peat or dry humus) to protect against frost. The layer must be at least 20 cm.
What can be the problems during reproduction
There are several breeding problems that every gardener may encounter:
- untimely shoots. Shallow holes will help to avoid this;
- low-quality planting material. It is necessary to inspect it in advance for stains, cracks, etc.
- violation of root formation. Pre-seedlings are treated with “heteroauxin” (40 g per 6 l of water). Soak them for 3 days.
So, now you know how to multiply the frankincense in order to preserve the density of plantings and make the plot more vivid. It is recommended that you use the methods that you consider effective and that you can implement yourself.
