British pork exports have taken a sharp start since January 2019, helped by deliveries of over £ 16 million to non-EU countries at the beginning of the year.
The growth in the value of exports to countries outside the European bloc is more than 40% and in volume by January 2019 - about 28% compared with January 2018.
Taken together, this means that pork exports from the UK grew by almost 11% year on year to more than 28,000 tons worth nearly £ 41 million, compared to £ 35 million in January 2018. 347,000 tons of pork worth just under £ 490 million worldwide — 12,000 tons and more than £ 19 million more than the previous year, marking a decade of sustainable growth.
Angela Christison, Strategy Director for AHDB Pork, stated that, “British pork is now loved in approximately 97 countries around the world, and interest in it is only growing.” In January of this year, China was the largest buyer of pork from the UK, having purchased 7,800 tons of product, followed by followed by Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands. Outside the EU, other major customers were Hong Kong, the USA and the Philippines.
