Based on the information shared by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, to date, domestic farmers have managed to fulfill more than eighty percent of the plan for sowing spring crops for the current year.
It is known that at the moment more than forty-two million hectares are sown with spring crops. For clarity, we note that as of May 28 last year, thirty-eight and a half million hectares were sown in spring.
It will not be amiss to note that the grain share in the spring fields sown today is eighty-two and a half percent of the area planned for 2019 (we are talking about twenty-four and a half million hectares). A year earlier, the grain index in spring fields was about twenty-two million hectares.
It is reported that Russian farmers managed to sow seven million hectares (89.5%) with barley. As for wheat crops, here the indicator at the moment is 80% or about ten million hectares.
If we talk about grain corn, then its indicator as of May 28, 2019 is 96% and two and a half million hectares. The areas planted with rice are one hundred sixty seven thousand hectares, which is a little more than 87% of the area planned for this crop this year.
