The Main Statistics Office of Poland reports on a significant decrease in stone fruit production in the country this season.
This was reported in the Association “Berry production of Ukraine”. gross cherry picking in Polish farms reaches 155 thousand tons, which is 22% less than last year.
Due to such a decline in production, Polish producers managed to maintain prices that were significantly higher than in the previous season. The last batch of berries they sold an average of three times more expensive than a year ago.
The gross yield of plums is estimated at 95 thousand tons. That is, a decrease compared to the results of 2018 is 20%.
Cherry production fell most significantly. According to the first management reports, Polish gardeners collected only 43 thousand tons of these stone fruits, which is 28% less than in the record year 2018.
The main reason for the reduction in stone fruit, according to market players, is adverse weather conditions in late spring and the first half of summer. In addition, the season of stone fruit in Poland lasted significantly less than usual this year.
As previously reported, due to the spring frosts of this year, Poland lost a significant part of the strawberry crop.
