The international Danone group of companies, whose products are sold in 130 countries of the world, intends to buy the Galichina company from Ukraine.
This was told by a market representative who wanted to hide his name. Ukrainian "Galicia" has established itself in the country's market and has even become a national brand.
In 2018, Galicia showed good growth in sales, which aroused great interest at Danone, where it is believed that the best time has come to absorb the Ukrainian competitor.In 2018, the Galichina market share from whole milk increased by 37%. And this is the highest indicator among all dairy producers in the country. The Ukrainian company took the 2nd step in the ranking of liquid yogurt producers and the fourth place in the CMP segment.
Danone is currently trying to strengthen its position in the sale of non-functional yoghurts, where it is represented only by the Zhivinka brand, which turned out to be not very successful. This product has been restarted more than once, as it could not reach the projected sales volumes. It is not surprising that Danone became interested in buying Galicia, as the brand’s growth rate outpaces the market’s growth rate, the market representative sums up.
