According to a new forecast from the British non-profit organization for the provision of services to the dairy sector AHDB Dairy, the expected production volume of British milk for the 2019-2020 marketing year will be 12.56 billion liters, which is slightly lower than the previous estimate, but still remains maximum for 29 years.
In the future, it is expected that milk production will return to a more normal level, since the number of concentrates in the diet of dairy cows will decrease in proportion to the increase in the amount of conventional feed. However, this is only possible under normal weather conditions.
In addition to dairy indicators, the AHDB Dairy forecast lowered expectations for the dairy herd from October to December this year, based on trends observed in the latest available dairy data.Although milk production in Britain remains high, in other countries the picture is completely different. Global expectations for milk supply were reduced from 0.9% to 0.3%, while growth in the EU was negligible.
According to AHDB, continued access to the EU market for British dairy exports, at least until October, should help maintain market returns. However, the lack of storage capacity continues to cause concern in the European domestic market.
