The demand and supply of food rye in the Ukrainian market leads to a difference in prices of some types of bakery products. UAH / t, informs the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU).
According to the head of Ukrhlebprom Alexander Vasilchenko, now in Ukraine there is an opportunity to produce hard wheat products, such as pasta. But such wheat is not grown here, which inhibits the natural competition of domestic products with high added value.
The head of Ukrhlebprom noted that the price of rye flour since the beginning of 2019 has more than doubled to 11 thousand UAH / t, which is why over the 5 months of this year, the cost of rye and rye-wheat bread has increased by about 78%.
Vasilchenko said that in Ukraine, the interaction of manufacturers of bread and bakery products with retail chains for an expired product has not yet been settled. Retailers are not financially liable for returning this product.
Alexander Vasilchenko believes that it is necessary to revise the standards for wheat in relation to its protein and gluten content. This would guarantee the required baking properties of flour for the manufacture of high-quality bread.
He noted that the Ukrainian market of bread and bakery products is characterized by fierce competition. The six largest business entities on the domestic market occupy no more than 40% of the total bread production, and production capacities are not fully utilized.
