Agroholding KSG Agro has identified the development of pig farming as its priority. This was announced by Chairman of the Board of Directors of KSG Agro Sergey Kasyanov.
“Now in Ukraine there is virtually no European-level breeding products,” said Sergey Kasyanov. - The effectiveness of Ukrainian breeding pigs is significantly lower than European ones. If a Danish sow gives 30 pigs a year, then a Ukrainian sow gives 20. And this difference gives a competitive advantage. ”
According to him, the market today is poorly filled, in the future it will become more structured, and the company sees an opportunity to increase its share in it.
KSG Agro has the hope that investors, including Danish, will join the breeding work. So, he noted that the Danes are now looking for potential partners in Ukraine (two or three projects), although even before the end of 2018 they defended the position that pigs should be bought only in Denmark.
Sergei Kasyanov does not exclude the situation that ASF may even close the Ukrainian market from the import of any pig products. Therefore, Ukraine needs to have a sufficient amount of its own highly efficient breeding stock of pigs.
The agricultural holding plans to grow animals both for its own needs and for the domestic market. “We have chosen the direction of vertically integrated pig breeding: we produce feed, pedigree animals, commodity pork, we sell commodity pork in bulk, we process part and part in a specialized retail network,” he emphasized. - We also intend to develop our own brand. This is not yet in the immediate plans, but this is the direction where to move. "
