In eastern Germany, for the second year in a row, a low yield of corn has been observed. Compared to the officially established sowing area, this corresponds to a decrease of 2.04%.
However, according to information provided by the research and consulting company, regional differences are especially large this year. According to Kleffmann CropRadar, there is a catastrophic picture of corn stocks in eastern Germany due to prolonged drought.
For example, in Brandenburg, the area of corn that can be harvested is 208,861 ha, which is 8.63% lower than the officially registered sowing area. In Saxony - 11.49%, and in Saxony-Anhalt even 13.37% of the sown area was damaged.
According to the Kleffmann Group, in some regions, corn developed much more slowly than in others. The situation was probably aggravated by the cold phase in the middle of summer and regional drought. Thus, in the whole country, a total of 2% of corn stocks are in a "catastrophic state", another 3-4% - in a "poor condition".
The company sees farmers growing willingness to think about alternative crops, such as soybeans, due to renewed corn management problems.
Meanwhile, the crop balance in Thuringia shows large fluctuations in crop yields this year. In addition, ongoing drought in some regions, including Lower Saxony, affects crops and the upcoming crop.
