Locally grown cucumbers, having only recently appeared on Ukrainian markets, began to become cheaper, EastFruit experts report. The supply of vegetables from Turkey is almost completely stopped, but the price is on the decline.
Currently, leading manufacturing companies sell cucumbers at a price of 52-56 UAH / kg, which is $ 1.93-2.08 / kg. Market participants explain the situation by a tangible increase in vegetable supplies from the country's greenhouses and modest demand for it.
Market operators blame retailers and wholesale companies for lowering the cost of cucumbers, who refuse to sell large quantities of goods for sale, complaining about insufficient sales. Because of this, a lot of unsold vegetables have accumulated in the warehouses of enterprises, the quality of which is increasingly declining over time.Although lowering the price of cucumbers is already a fait accompli, their price is still 2.3 times higher than it was in the same period of 2018. So, in mid-March last year, the price of locally grown cucumbers was in the range of 22-25 UAH / kg .Experts predict that a rapid drop in vegetable prices is not expected. It is likely that cucumbers will even increase in value.
