Ukrainian scientists have conducted a collection test of several varieties of sweet-fruited mountain ash in the Donbass. The following varieties were included in the sample: Sugar, Rossika, Sorbinka, Rossika Mayor, Rozina, Moravskaya, Nevezhinskaya, Daughter Kubovoi, Krasnaya, Kubova, Koncentra, Zheltyaya, Vefed, Businka and Angri.
The most productive varieties were Rozina, Nevezhinskaya and Moravian. They had large clusters, in which there were 200 or more fruits with an average weight of 0.8-1 g. The largest fruits reached 1.5 g of weight.
Varieties such as Sugar, Rossika Major, Rossika, Kubova, Krasnaya, Koncentra and Zheltaya gave a small crop of poor quality. These varieties turned out to be very sensitive to drought, in which the content of ascorbic acid in the fruits does not exceed 40-60 mg / 100 g. For comparison, in the berries of rowan berries of the Moravian variety it contains 70 mg / 100 g.In natural conditions, mountain ash grows in Polesie, most of the forest-steppe, in the mountainous part of Crimea. In the steppe zone of Ukraine, mountain ash can only be seen in cultural plantings - botanical gardens, parks, on the streets and in personal plots. Most often, mountain ash grows on the right bank of Polesie, Forest-Steppe and in the Crimea. In the eastern regions of the country, it is rare.
